Living in Helsinki
Helsinki is one of the best places to live in the world – and we’re not just saying that. Finland constantly and consistently tops the charts for quality of life. We have more metal bands per capita than any other country, and we drink more coffee than anyone in the world. Especially in Helsinki, there’s always an event to go to or a party to crash.
International Game Developers Association (IGDA)
Finland is the first country in the world whose IGDA chapter is a fully independent legal entity, Every month, IGDA Finland and a different game company host a free event at a popular and swanky bar in the middle of Helsinki. This includes free seminars, drinks, and networking. It’s a great way to meet new people and feel connected to the industry.
Indie Beer Helsinki
A monthly event to meet other indies and show off your games at a popular bar in Helsinki. Everyone is encouraged to come, and since the startup culture is very prominent in Finland, the events attract a good sized crowd.
Women in Games Finland
If you identify as a woman in the games industry, the Helsinki chapter of Women in Games offers great support and networking opportunities. Every one or two months, the women of the Finnish games industry host an evening of wine and candy, usually followed by going out for pizza and drinks. It’s a great way to connect with other women, and see cool offices around Helsinki.
Finnish Game Jam
A game jam is an event where a group of people make a game in a set amount of time (usually 48 hours). Finland has a huge jamming scene, with amazing events run by passionate people under the banner of the Finnish Game Jam organisation. We have a couple of enthusiastic jammers at the office, and in 2017, Playmore Games hosted the very first Finnish board game jam.
